Over 2/3 of Oregonians believe that same-sex couples should have their relationships legally recognized by the state.
Jean Tate
Real Estate Agent
Eugene, Oregon

"Everyone should have an equal opportunity for the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness," proclaims Jean Tate. A home is an essential part of that equation, and as a former real estate agent, Ms. Tate has long fought to make sure that a safe, secure, and affordable place to live are available for all of her clients.

Her clients aren't her only connection to gay and lesbian issues, however.  Ms. Tate has worked along side gay Realtors, hired lesbian contractors to work on houses and stood by a bisexual friend when he was fired from a teaching position.

"I've seen a lot of pain and discrimination," she says, "but some hope, as well." One of her favorite stories involves a devout Christian staff member who asked his minister if working for the obviously pro-gay Tate was wrong. The minister's answer was one that everyone can take to heart in the fight for gay and lesbian equality: "Is she honest and ethical in her business dealings? If so, then her personal life is her business." end
