As Mayor of Lincoln City, Lori Hollingsworth worked successfully for the for passage of an equal rights ordinance in Lincoln City. She believes that equal rights should be the law statewide. "Prejudice hurts all of us," she says. She believes that equality reflects the true community values of Lincoln City and all of Oregon.

Mayor Hollingsworth is committed to working with leaders in the LGBTQ community to achieve the goal of equal rights throughout the state.

Hollingsworth believes it is important to move beyond simple tolerance of others to being able to embrace and understand differences. She says that diversity is important because different types of people bring different perspectives, ideas and solutions to the problems of a community. In addition, diversity keeps an organization flexible and ensures its survival. Hollingsworth believes that the current discussion about protecting LGBTQ people from discrimination and providing equal civil marriage rights is important to the long-term economic health of Oregon. end
