Domestic partnership law goes forward! Update from the hearing
After hearing several hours of testimony and oral arguments, Judge Mosman issued a ruling to lift the temporary restraining order preventing Oregon from implimenting it’s domestic partnership law. Oregon’s 36 counties now have the ability to issue domestic partnership licenses to caring, committed couples all over the state!
This is an enormous victory and is a great step toward equality. We do expect the Alliance Defense Fund will appeal the ruling; they have already made public their plans to file initiatives to repeal the nondiscrimination law enacted on Jan 1 and the domestic partnership law that’s now in effect. Basic Rights Oregon is committed to defending these basic fairness laws. For the moment, join Basic Rights Oregon and Oregon’s LGBT community in celebrating this tremendous victory for equality!
Monday morning, head over to the County office and register your domestic partnership with the state of Oregon!
Find your County Clerk information here.
More details and analysis coming soon.

What wonderful news! This has turned into a “bright, bright sunshiny day” here
on the rain-soaked Pacific Coast of Oregon. We’ve come a long way, but there’s
a lot of distance between us and true equality. Thanks to BRO and other hard-
working groups, we have taken a meaningful step toward that day when all
people can share in the protections provided by “marriage” – even the dubious
honor of getting our engagement and marriage announcements published in
the cheesy society pages of our local newspapers.

Yay! Thanks to all who stood in the rain and rallied with us.
Thank you BRO! It’s time to CELEBRATE!
CHEERS!

This is such great news! Excellent work, BRO! After getting married and then having that marriage revoked, however, we are worried that this could happen again with the domestic partnerships. If the opposition files an appeal, or manages to get a ballot measure passed against the domestic partnerships — could wwould those of us who get “domestically partnered” between now and then lose that status? It’s such a roller coaster!

We know that we’ve got a long struggle ahead of us, but for now we all need to breathe and enjoy the moment.
I don’t know about everyone else, but we’re going to celebrate like hell, the culmination of a nearly 29 year engagement!!!!
Again, congratulations to us all and thank you BRO!

YES! Thank you BRO!!! We must continue to fight against the right, especially those out of state conservatives who want to control what the great state of Oregon desires for its citizens.
