McDonald’s and The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce
For the first time since my early childhood, I am on McDonald’s side.
A partnership between McDonald’s and the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce seems to be causing quite a stir within the conservative American Family Association, which has called for a national boycott of the fast food giant. Apparently, the AFA feels threatened that such an American staple is working towards inclusiveness and fairness. The fact that McDonald’s is taking an active role in equality for all has made me rethink how I view the golden arches.
“At McDonald’s, we respect and value everyone. Diversity and inclusion are business imperatives and integral components of our culture,” said William Whitman, a McDonald’s spokesman. While a statement like this does not encouraging me to revive the excitement I once had for a Happy Meal; it makes me consider how I talk about McDonald’s in general.
The NGLCC and McDonald’s are working together to build an inclusive personnel policy with equality in health care and employment a priority. For this reason alone, I encourage the general public to consume as many Big Macs and Filet o’Fishes they can handle.
For more details on the partnership check out the NGLCC website.
