The equality movement lost an icon today (8/27)
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, along with Basic Rights Oregon, mourn the passing of Del Martin.
Martin and her partner, Phyllis Lyon, have been pioneers in social justice and LGBT equality since the 1950s. In 1955, they helped establish the Daughters of Bilitis in San Francisco. That was only the beginning of their lives together as activists. Their list of accomplishments as a committed couple reads like a surreal novel of struggle and empowerment. Organizations who fight for social justice and equality have lost a great mentor.
Our thoughts are with Phyllis during this time of loss. We wish to thank them for paving the road for the rest of us.
