NYC religious university accepts transgendered professor
Dr. Jillian Weiss, reports on her blog that Yeshiva University in New York City, which is an Orthodox Jewish institution, has accepted and maintains the employment of a professor who transitioned from male to female.
This is not Yeshiva’s first experience with the LGBT community. In the mid 90s they faced a lawsuit from a graduate level student who applied for student housing for her and her partner. The request was denied and the lawsuit, which found its way to appeals court, followed shortly after. This case is also talked about in Dr. Weiss’s blog.
Another small step for transgender equality. While it is exciting to hear about such an institution accepting one of its faculty members, BRO is working for the day that this is an non-issue.
