Portland launches nation’s first African American PFLAG chapter! (4/18)

Leaders of the local African American community are planning a gathering to establish a new chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). The Black PFLAG chapter in Portland will provide support and aid to African Americans with a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender family member. This will be the first PFLAG chapter in the country dedicated specifically to the African American community.

African American PFLAG Chapter Launch

Saturday, April 18
10:00 am – 12:00 noon
Ainsworth United Church of Christ

PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten a poorly-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
Leaders of this effort invite community members who want to support black gay and lesbian friends and family to attend the April 18 gathering.
