Speak Out 2009: Online survey to support grant development for LGBT community
The Multnomah County Health Department is seeking to better understand what contributes to health and wellness for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) people through an online survey: Speak Out 2009. Through this survey we will gather local data to support grant development for programs and policies that address social, structural, and individual factors that affect LGBTQI communities.
We’re hoping you will help us spread the word and encourage people to participate, especially those in your local, personal social networks. The wider range of respondents we get, the better we will be able to represent the broad diversity of our communities. We especially want to reach LGBTQI people of color, trans people, and LGBTQI elders. We want to eliminate root causes of health disparities that affect LGBTQI people.
The survey takes 15-30 minutes to complete. (Long, we know! We want to address a broad range of factors and outcomes). We recognize one limitation of doing a survey online is that it may limit access. If you have ideas for how we might reach people (short of paper copies, which isn’t feasible given the question format), we’d love to hear them.
The survey is available through the end of July at:

We will publish preliminary results in Fall 2009 on the health department website.
