Rachel Wallis is an artist, activist, rust-belt native, and recent transplant to Portland. Although she has more than a decade’s experience doing communications and development work with grassroots groups working for racial, social, and economic justice, her heart is in her work as a textile artist. Rachel organizes community quilting projects, which double as spaces for education and organizing. She has spent the last two years coordinating Gone But Not Forgotten, a memorial quilt for individuals killed by the Chicago police. When she is not doing administrative work at Basic Rights Oregon you can find her teaching quilting at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, or sewing mini map quilts while watching Netflix.
