Bites for Rights
Our most delicious fundraiser of the year! 2012 marks the 13th annual Bites for Rights Event.
On June 21st, 2012, restaurants, coffee shops, bars and bakeries around the state will donate a generous percentage of their day’s proceeds to Basic Rights Oregon. On this one day, you can feast to promote fairness for all LGBT Oregonians.

In 2011 restaurants state-wide took part in Bites for Rights including the Astoria Coffeehouse in Astoria and Left Coast Siesta in Manzanita. Along with Byways Café, Cupcake Jones, The Gilt Club, Crush, Genoa Restaurant, Big Ass Sandwiches and Mother’s Bistro & Bar to name a few from Portland.
Take a stand for equality by going out for coffee, brunch, drinks, dinner and dessert. With your help, we can send a powerful message to business owners that supporting LGBT equality is not only the right thing to do, but it’s good business too! By dining out all day long, YOU can help sustain Basic Rights Oregon’s efforts in transgender justice, racial justice and marriage equality.
Are you a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, food cart interested in participating in this year’s Bites for Rights? Does your business, organization, or community group want to take part in Bites for Rights for your monthly meeting with a restaurant near you? Contact Joe LeBlanc at Joe@basicrights.org or 503.222.6151 x113 for more details.
Mark your calendars for this year’s Bites for Rights – Thursday, June 21, 2012.

WORLD AIDS DAY
On December 1st 2011– around the world and throughout the United States – communities will come together to mark the 23rd Annual World AIDS Day. Take time to ensure we not only recognize the 25 million individuals lost to HIV and AIDS, but the 33 million global citizens living with the HIV virus today.
This year will mark the 30th anniversary of the first known case of AIDS. Now is the time for action!
What are you doing on World AIDS Day? Luckily you are invited to all these events.
This year a landmark study showed that putting healthy people living with HIV on antiretrovirals early can limit their transmission of the virus by 96 percent. Through knowledge, prevention and early testing we can continue to slow the rate of HIV transmission. So how will you take action this World AIDS Day? Visit our list of 30 actions for 30 years to gain ideas.
In the US, there are over 1.1 Million Americans living with HIV and more than 20% of those infected do not even know they carry the virus. HIV affects every community, so take action this World AIDS Day to make a difference in yours.
