DESCRIPTION:Join Basic Rights Oregon for this interactive workshop addressing the commonalities and differences between racism\, homophobia and transphobia. As May Day approaches\, we'll focus specifically on immigrant rights and LGBT rights\, and folks who live at the intersections of our communities. Participants will develop a shared framework for understanding race and racial justice\, explore the parallel and unique experiences of trans and immigrant communities\, and learn how documentation is used to police both gender and national status. DESCRIPTION:Please Join us for the premiere of the Our Families Native American Two Spirit Video.     The video was created to help raise the visibility and highlight the personal trials and triumphs of LGBTQ Native American Two Spirit people sharing their experiences. It is part of a series of videos that focus on the experiences of LGBT people of color.  You can RSVP by clicking Here!    Our Families is a community-based education project that raises the visibility of Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual\, and Transgender (LGBT)  families of color in our communities. As part of our ongoing education campaign\, we have created a short "Our Families" video that highlights the unique trials and triumphs of Native American Two Spirit LGBT families. Please join us for a special screening on Monday\, November 12th at 6:00pm at the Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest (NARA - 12360 E Burnside St.\, Portland\, Oregon). This screening will also include a panel with the courageous families who shared their stories and a fun social hour! DESCRIPTION:Gay Skate\, sponsored by FabulousPDX.com\, announces GAY SKATE and GAME NIGHT for the RACIAL JUSTICE PROGRAM of BASIC RIGHTS OREGON (BRO) on Monday\, May 21st from 7-9 pm. We have now added GAMES for the non-skaters among us who still want to hang out: Trivial Pursuit\, Cranium\, Spoons\, plus anything appropriate you want to bring along.   Come skate or play games with your friends\, make new friends\, just hang out and have a good time - all while benefiting the Racial Justice Program of BRO.  As if the skating were not enough\, we are working on some other fun activities for the evening. There will be a raffle for prizes\, so be sure to bring a little extra "play money" so you can win some cool things. As we get prizes\, we will update this event wall. DESCRIPTION:Our most delicious fundraiser of the year! 2012 marks the 13th annual Bites for Rights Event.  On June 21st\, 2012\, restaurants\, coffee shops\, bars and bakeries around the state will donate a generous percentage of their day’s proceeds to Basic Rights Oregon. On this one day\, you can feast to promote fairness for all LGBT Oregonians. SUMMARY:OREGON ASIAN CELEBRATION CELEBRATES THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON
DESCRIPTION:The Eugene/Springfield Asian Council is proud to present the 27th annual Oregon Asian Celebration! Join the celebration February 18th and 19th as we celebrate the year of the Dragon.  This years theme is "The Future is in Your Hands."  The two day event\, being held at the Lane Events Center/Fairgrounds offers cultural activities for all ages.  Celebration co-chair David Tam says the idea behind this year’s theme is to let people know “the future of our planet is dependent on the actions we take today.” 2012 is also the year of the Dragon\, a symbol of passion and nobility.   The celebration will feature cuisines from countries such as India\, Japan\, Vietnam\, Korea and the Philippines. The Celebration will also feature its traditional art and Asian history exhibits\, martial arts expos and youth room.  Highlighted main stage performances include drum dancers from the Jindo province of South Korea; the music of KOHALA\, Hawaii’s acoustic guitar trio ; a duet between the Iron Mango Orchestra and the North Eugene High School 'ukulele Orchestra; Portland Taiko; and the Balinese dancers sponsored by the Indonesian Consulate. Weaver\, Susan Pavel\, will bring "Weaving Words" to the Celebration Atrium Stage on both afternoons.  Admission is $6 per day ($10 for the weekend) for adults; children 12 and under are FREE.  The event closes at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
