Recently Basic Rights Oregon and Oregon United for Marriage held the first Communities of Color Speakers Bureau training for people of color, dedicated to sharing stories from and within communities of color. These trainings provide community-specific messaging tools and space to shape and strengthen stories about what marriage means and why marriage matters to people of color.
At these ongoing Speakers Bureau trainings, trained speakers will join Oregon United’s broad speakers bureau, and will have the opportunity to serve in varied and multiple roles: talking to small community groups and house parties; speaking to the media; sharing their stories via our campaign networks; and writing op-eds and letters to the editor; sharing stories with family and friends. Together we are raising the experiences and leadership of people of color to share their stories of why marriage matters to them and we invite you to join us for future training opportunities!
