Election season is right around the corner and Basic Rights Oregon is as active as ever. Marriage was a big win, but we all know how important our work ahead is to ensure every member of our LGBT community and our allies have basic needs. We are a part of a large grassroots effort to pass the Oregon Safe Roads Act which passed in the legislature and is now on its way to the ballot for voters to decide on. This driver’s card will provide a critical option which will impact thousands of Oregonians within immigrant, senior, veteran, and worker communities. But, it’s going to take YOU to help spread the word of this important issue. Basic Rights will be joining our allies and coalition partners to host a canvass on Saturday, August 16th from 10am -2pm.  Click HERE to sign up! Check out more information about the campaign HEREVote yes on Measure 88!

In other news, the Basic Rights Oregon Equality PAC, the leading statewide political action committee working to achieve equality for all gay and transgender communities, is gearing up to support pro-equality candidates. Click HERE and please watch for the launch of our Vote Equality guide later this summer with a complete list of endorsed candidates. We’ll also keep you informed via email and Facebook of opportunities to volunteer for pro-equality candidates during this critical election year. Another major opportunity to get involved with Basic Rights is helping us register folks in our community to vote! We need to lift up the voices of our community and make sure decision makers know we are registered and voting. We know that building power through a grassroots effort will be the greatest way for us to build a movement. We are doing this by developing volunteer leaders, collecting voter registration, and identifying voters to become a part of our political team! We are excited to continue to be at the table and bring our voices together to impact policy and decisions that affect our communities. Thank you for all your support!
