We are proud to announce the 2nd edition of our groundbreaking resource: “The Benefits of Equality: A Blueprint for Inclusive Health Care for Transgender Workers.“
Created by Basic Rights Oregon’s Trans Justice team and the Trans Justice Working Group, this toolkit has proven to be a definitive resource for moving gender-affirming health care in the workplace. Transgender people are often denied coverage for basic, medically necessary care simply because they are transgender. This includes many services that are covered for cisgender (non-transgender) people: cancer screenings, mental health care, hormone therapy and surgical care. “The Benefits of Equality” is a tool to help remove these discriminatory exclusions.
In the past year, we’ve seen tremendous victories for trans-inclusive health care here in Oregon and around the country. From Oregon Health and Science University to the Port of Portland, local businesses and universities are leading the way by providing inclusive benefits. And Oregon broke new ground in December when our Insurance Division released a bulletin making it clear that there’s no place for discrimination in Oregon employers’ health plans. In the past few months alone, similar bulletins have been issued in California, Colorado, Vermont, and Washington, D.C. The momentum is building and this toolkit is a comprehensive resource with the most up-to-date information about moving trans-inclusive health care.
Whether you’re a worker, a student, a business leader, or a union member, this toolkit has all the tools you need to put your values into action – values like dignity, equality, and fairness. Removing exclusions targeted at transgender people is a critical way to ensure that these values are being realized. Do you need cost data or tips on how to talk to your insurance provider? How about an introduction to the issue or basic language? Download this free toolkit and get the answers to these questions and much, much more!
With your help, transgender Oregonians can truly experience equality in the workplace, by gaining access to the same health care our cisgender (non-trans) co-workers rely on every day. Together we can make Oregon’s workplaces stronger and more equitable, and that benefits all of us. Download this free resource today.
And don’t forget, we’re here to help you through the process. We look forward to working with you – please contact us at any time at 503-222-6151.
