2016 Oregonians Against Discrimination Business Leader’s Luncheon

/, News/2016 Oregonians Against Discrimination Business Leader’s Luncheon

April is fast approaching, and that means that it’s almost time for the 2016 Oregonians Against Discrimination Business Leaders Luncheon!

This year, 2016, is the 20th anniversary of Basic Rights Oregon. We’ve made huge progress thanks to strong leadership from Oregon’s business community. Join us as we reflect on two decades on the forefront of LGBTQ equality in Oregon and recognize business leaders who have helped to define equality in our state. This will be an opportunity to hear what businesses around the state are doing to combat LGBTQ workplace discrimination, hear our new initiatives to keep Oregon one of the best states for LGBTQ folks to work, and celebrate the achievements we’ve made together with our business community.

Basic Rights Education Fund will honor New Seasons Market, Legacy Health Physician Dr. Megan Bird and Symantec for their leadership on transgender equality in Oregon at its 2016 Oregonians Against Discrimination Business Leaders Luncheon.

More than 90 percent of transgender people report experiencing harassment or discrimination in the workplace. Basic Rights Education Fund is working to build fair workplaces for LGBTQ Oregonians in every community of our state and is re-launching its Fair Workplace Project in 2016 to address the disparities transgender people face in the state. These honorees were selected specifically for their innovative work around transgender inclusion.

“When Basic Rights Oregon was founded two decades ago, Oregon’s business community was on the forefront in creating fairness and equality in the work environment for lesbian, gay and bisexual Oregonians,” said Amy Herzfeld, who is leading the Fair Workplace Project. “Regrettably, we have countless stories from transgender Oregonians that demonstrate we still have a great deal of work to do to ensure that they have the same opportunities to thrive and build successful careers in Oregon.”
