OurFamilies2013 SOS

Since 2011 Our Families has reached out to leaders, allies, and influential people of color throughout Oregon to invite them to speak out and publicly support LGBT families of color. The ‘Coming Out for Our Families’ ad works to build support among straight communities of color and is one of the key components of Our Families.

As we work to promote racial justice within our communities it is important that we strengthen our allies to join us in our work. On or around October 11 each year this statement of support is published in various media outlets. To join the list of organizations and leaders for 2014 contact Khalil@basicrights.org.

“In order to grow, and support a healthy and tolerant community, the Eugene/Springfield branch of the NAACP recognizes the need to advocate and support strong and unified LGBT Families of color. Through unity comes strength.” –Eric Richardson, President NAACP Eugene/SpringfieldPresident, Eric Richardson- Eugene Springfield NAACP

The ad has been a meaningful way for supporters to take action and continue their allyship. We know there are many leaders and supporters in communities of color we have yet to connect with. If you would like to share your support for LGBT families of color and be included in our 2014 ad, please contact Khalil@basicrights.org by August 21st!
