We feel that all caring and committed couples should have the right to marry the person they love. Oregonians who are registered domestic partners have been barred from a dying partner's bedside and denied the ability to say goodbye to the person they love. That doesn't happen when you're married. Domestically partnered couples cannot access federal benefits such as filing federal taxes jointly, military benefits, and social security and even if DOMA is overturned, this would not change for Oregon couples unless and until we allow marriages for same sex couples.

Hi,

I'm in a RDP relationship and I'm curious as to how "marriage" is different beyond the word. What actual rights will we gain in addition to what we have now?

Thanks
