Crossroads: Immigrant Rights, Workers Rights and LGBT equality

We had a wonderful and  interactive workshop last week exploring the parallel histories and intersections of the LGBT and Immigrant’s Rights movement.  We explored the links between the recent VOTER ID laws being passed and proposed and the suppression of LGBT and immigrants.  Below is a letter from a participant and some photos from the workshop.

I just wanted to say thank you so much to the BRO team for hosting and creating this training. It felt so good to ‘learn it like we live it’ – every day we have the experience of interlocking oppression, privilege, and solidarity, but often when we teach each other or advocate, it’s a single issue approach. Your training affirmed the desire and ability to be vulnerable, stretch ourselves, and stand shoulder to shoulder for liberation.

I’m proud to live in a place where I can support an organization that knows this, and has the talent and energy to pull it off. Well done.

p.s. Cody’s breakdown of law and policing was the best articulation of that dynamic I’ve ever seen, simple and incisive and empathetic.
