Basic Rights Oregon is proud to announce our Keynote Speaker for our upcoming Trans Justice Healthcare Summit: No Excuses, No Exclusions is the amazing trans activist — Lori Buckwalter.
Lori Buckwalter is a trans woman who has worked for personal and community empowerment in areas of civil rights and access to healthcare, employment and public processes and accommodations. Lori was on the leading edge of change in Oregon for a decade. She used her personal struggles to transition and thrive as an impetus to support the aspirations and needs of other trans people, and the LGBT community, and to create broader cross-cultural understanding and acceptance.
Lori has held various positions including Co-Chair for the Sexual Minorities Round Table, Cultural Competency Coordinator for Multnomah County, as well as time spent as an artist and performer. She was also the Executive Director for It’s Time Oregon, which was a local, state and national advocacy organization for trans civil rights.
On top of also being a 2nd degree black belt instructor, Lori has also won several awards for her dedication and activism including Willamette Week’s Best Everything in 1996, the Portland Mayor’s Human Rights Award in 2001, and the NGLTF Clarence Anderson National Service Award in 2002, and several others.
Join us for Lori’s Keynote speech and the rest of our workshop lineup at the Trans Justice Healthcare Summit on Saturday, October 29th at Q Center. Register today!
