2013 Trans Justice Summit

| October 21, 2013 | Comments (1)

The 2013 Trans Justice Summit (November 9th, 9:30AM-6PM) will empower trans Oregonians in our work to build a strong movement for trans justice statewide.

With workshops ranging from “Community Organizing 101” to “Dismantling Racism in Trans Communities”, this Summit is the only one of its kind in the Pacific Northwest that focuses on developing trans leaders and building the skills we need to strengthen the movement for trans justice!

This year’s Summit will focus on engaging the members of our community most impacted by our priority issues, and developing the skills of those who have historically been pushed out of our movements.

We will have limited registration available, with priority given to participants who identify as trans women, trans people of color, trans youth, and those at the intersections of these identities.

The Summit will be free of charge to attendees and will include lunch with vegan and gluten free options. Transportation assistance will be available.

Contact Adrian Martinez (adrian@basicrights.org) if you’re interested in attending.

And a BIG thank you to Equity Foundation for being a sponsor of this year’s Trans Justice Summit.

I’m a trans-woman. I am only 6 months into my transition but I am happier than I’ve been my whole life. I have read the stories about how the trans community has been mistreated/marginalized etc etc. I just applied for a different insurance plan (with the same company I have now) and I got denied because of my GID. So yes these topics affect me, they affect all trans people on some level. I feel like I have a lot to learn and hopefully something to share about my experience.
