Job Posting: Trans Justice Organizer with Basic Rights Oregon

 

Position Overview

The Trans Justice Organizer is a full-time, exempt position responsible for organizing within and for transgender communities for Basic Rights Oregon’s campaign to end health insurance exclusions impacting trans Oregonians.  The Organizer will work to develop and engage volunteer leaders and leaders within supportive businesses.  The Organizer will also create materials and communications to support the goals of the health care campaign. The position involves in-state travel and reports to the Trans Justice Lead Organizer.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the campaigns, programs and educational activities of the Trans Justice program
  • Recruit, mobilize, and train volunteers, and maintain systems to track volunteer participation
  • Represent the interests of the organization with community groups and leaders
  • Plan, coordinate and execute program events, including recruitment and logistics
  • Assist in executing key campaign strategies, including work with policymakers and businesses
  • Conduct educational presentations for a variety of audiences
  • Create content for online newsletters and blog posts
  • Coordinate and support the Trans Justice Working Group, who guide and power BRO’s health care campaign, and assist in building their skills, membership, and capacity
  • Support the work of the Racial Justice program and Marriage Equality campaign; reflect organizational values of racial justice, LGBT equality and youth inclusion in the trans justice program
  • Prepare written weekly and quarterly work plans and progress reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: The Trans Justice Organizer will excel in relationship building, have strong attention to detail, and commitment to racial justice, trans justice, and youth inclusion. Qualifications include:

  • Previous community, student, electoral or other organizing experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with trans communities; commitment to building a multi-racial team; experience and commitment to working across lines of identity
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of projects, problem-solve, and work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent skills with planning, follow-up, and written and verbal communication
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the organization, and to social justice
  • Computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Comfortable speaking to small and large groups
  • Ability to travel in-state and to work evenings and weekends

 

Compensation: Competitive salary, depending on experience; benefits package including medical, dental and vision coverage.
