TransActive Executive Director Jenn Burleton

Our friends at TransActive Education & Advocacy confirmed today that the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) will cover medical care for transgender children and youth beginning October 1, 2014! This is a huge step forward in securing access to medically necessary care for trans Oregonians.

The care to be covered under the Oregon Health Plan will include mental health care, puberty suppressing treatments, and related evaluations. Mental health care relating to gender identity will also be covered for trans adults on the Oregon Health Plan. This landmark, first-of-its-kind decision comes after more than a year of TransActive’s work with the OHP Values-based Benefits Subcommittee.

TransActive is a non-profit organization and a recognized leader in trans youth care, services, education and advocacy. For more information and for questions regarding the new OHP coverage, please visit TransActive’s website or email: info@transactiveonline.org.
