Mission

Basic Rights Oregon will ensure that all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit, intersex, and asexual Oregonians experience equality by building a broad and inclusive politically powerful movement, shifting public opinion, and achieving policy victories.

Vision

To ensure that all LGBTQ2SIA+ Oregonians live free from discrimination and be treated with dignity and respect in every community in our state.

Theory of Change

Basic Rights Oregon understands that our true liberation is linked together, meaning that no one is free until everyone is free to live as their truest selves, free from discrimination and harm. When BRO truly and fully centers the voices of the most marginalized in our community, our work will result in an Oregon with lived equity of BIPOC, queer and trans people.   

Each of our departments is expected to conduct their work and strategic planning with BIPOC queer and trans communities at the center. This means we listen to community and incorporate their needs as we determine the focus of our work.

We understand that to truly liberate queer and trans people, our work must center the lives of those most marginalized in our community. The fact that Black trans women continue to face disproportionate access to health care, housing, economic stability and safety in community means that racial, economic, and trans justice drive our work. We center access to gender affirming care, safe housing, and policies and community organizing that work to better the lives of those most marginalized.
