30th Anniversary + Statewide Pride Tour
This year’s Pride theme is “Saddle Up! Not our First Rodeo,” which signifies the countless times in our 30-year history that we’ve been forced to protect and defend the rights of LGBTQ2SIA+ Oregonians. It’s not our first rodeo, and it won’t be our last. But we are here to stay.
Basic Rights Oregon is celebrating our 30 year milestone as an Oregon nonprofit organization! Formed in 1996 out of community responses to anti-gay ballot measures that plagued Oregon for decades, we have been helping protect and advance LGBTQ2SIA+ rights in the state ever since.
In fulfilling our mission to build power for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Oregonians, the organization has secured countless historic legislative and policy victories and helped Oregon become one of the best places to live and work in the country for queer and trans people.
Join us this summer for our Statewide Pride Tour as we celebrate this exciting historic milestone. We will be set up and participating at Pride events around the state. Contact us to get involved: info@basicrights.org

The Long Way - Hood to Coast Solo Attempt
The Long Way: Hood to Coast Solo Record Attempt for Basic Rights Oregon
200 Miles. 36 Hours. One Runner. One Record. One Cause.
In August 2026, local queer runner, Ajay Hanspal is attempting something that's only been done once in the 40+ year history of Hood to Coast: running the entire 200-mile relay solo. The route stretches from `Timberline on Mount Hood to the shores of Seaside, Oregon—crossing the cascades, forests, highways, farmland, and coastal roads. It's roughly eight marathons back-to-back with almost no rest, climbing and descending over 7,000 feet of elevation.
And he’s doing it all to help raise funds for Basic Rights Oregon through an ambitious Go Fund Me fundraiser. The symbolism is powerful: 200 miles of persistence, one step at a time, refusing to quit—just like the fight for human rights. The long way is the right way.
The Goal: $50,000
Support Ajay in meeting his goal here, and follow him on Instagram to keep up with his running journey!

More information to come, but you won’t want to miss the queerest party of the year.
