Portland, Oregon — Basic Rights Oregon is elated to celebrate the results of the midterm election, including Tina Kotek’s re-election as Governor of Oregon and expansion of supermajority power in the House and Senate. These historic statewide victories reflect the power of community, collective action, and showing up for one another. Our organization would like to thank all our volunteers and supporters who helped knock on doors, make calls, talk with neighbors, and rally communities together to make their voices heard. This moment is a reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together.
With Governor Kotek continuing to lead our state, LGBTQ+ Oregonians can count on an administration with a demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ+ equality. We look forward to continuing to advance policies together that improve access to affordable housing, healthcare, and safety for LGBTQ+ people across Oregon.
Our liberation is intersectional and inextricably linked to immigrant justice, racial justice, climate justice, and economic equity. We will continue to collaborate with our community partners because none of us are free until all of us are free.
"We are excited to pause and celebrate this moment, but we also know what still lies ahead under the Trump administration. The work isn't done. Oregon must remain a place where LGBTQ+ people and all marginalized communities can live safely, freely, and authentically. We are ready to keep organizing, building power, and defending our communities," said Kyndall Mason, Executive Director of Basic Rights Oregon.
We’re also proud to congratulate the BRO-endorsed candidates who won their elections. Their leadership and commitment to building a more equitable Oregon will be essential as we keep working toward a state where everyone can thrive.
